Scary movies are films in which the ultimate end is to scare, shock, or have feelings of horror from the theater`s audience. The items have been round since the other nineteenth century and occasionally overlap with similar genres such as thrillers. The word "horror" can be exploited to pronounce all types of different films from ones about serial killers to ones about monsters.

The real first horror films were silent pieces about demons and ghosts. Different things scare different people but the producers and directors of the early 1920s and thirties quickly observed that factors such as eerie sound effects, suspense, and sudden plot twists were often more efficient at frightening people than bloody sand and scary monsters.

Alfred Hitchcock, a man famous director and writer, is attributed with providing the greatest contributions to the horror genre. He pioneered numerous methods and techniques throughout his successful and long career, many of which are even used in psychological and suspense films even today. Most of Hitchcock`s feature films are considered classics and the manager himself is considered to be one of the world`s absolute best.

Alfred`s most renowned early film, "Shadow of a Question" also happens to be one of the first psychological thrillers and the director`s personal favorite. The film was so culturally significant that it was chosen to be included in the National Film Registry so that it`s spooky dialogue, overlapping characters, and criminal behavior could be watched and studied by movie enthusiasts for decades to come.

"Rear Window", "Strangers on a Train", "Vertigo", and his other most easily known projects were accomplished in the fifties. Each one of them showcased the director`s natural power to use well placed spooky music, emotionally unstable characters, and intelligent plots to frighten an audience.

Though creatures such as Godzilla are incredibly scary, most of the genre`s most terrifying thriller and psychological movies are ones where the aggressor or `animal` is never yet shown. "Rosemary`s Baby" did a grand job with this by not display the demonic infant that was mentioned and talked about throughout the film. Other projects such as "The Blair Witch Project" in the late 1990s and "Jaws" executed this method as well. By not display a soul or object, filmmakers could actually pull the viewers to venerate it much more.

Another pop and useful method involves the form of sounds that a horror film uses. Sometimes a movie`s music is the most powerful aspect when it comes to scaring or terrifying people. Though they might not make known it at the time, the viewers who saw the film "Jaws" in the 1970s were on the very border of their chairs thanks to the film`s infamous score.
